This book provides an Islamic appreciation of capitalist individuality, capitalist society (civil society) and the capitalist state (the representative republic) from an orthodox Islamic perspective. It focuses on contemporary political and social theory. It is written as an introductory text for three groups of Islamic activists (a) non specialists (b) students of occidental philosophy and (c) students of mainstream social scientists. It argues that the overthrow of liberal capitalist order- both the capitalist systems and capitalist life world- is necessary for the achievement and sustenance of Islamic hegemony. It critiques the work of three eminent contemporary Islamic scholars, Moulana Taqi Usmani, Maulana Maududi and Allama Ali Shariate on the grounds that their thought legitimates the subsumptions of Islam within liberal or socialist capitalist order. This reaction is a critique of the movements of Islamic democracy, Islamic banking and Islamic socialism from an orthodox Islamic perspective. The book also attempts to develop on preliminary Islamic critique of major social science epistemes-economics, political science and Marxist social theory.
