His Last Bow, the fourth volume of Sherlock Holmes short stories, was published in 1917. It contains 8 stories from his long illustrious career. He is long retired but the advent of the Great War forces him to abandon his retirement for once for his country s sake. His heroics in the "German War" appear in the title story "His Last Bow."
