Anne is a Kent-based artist, tutor and author who trained in Canada and at Goldsmiths College in London. Her textile work developed alongside her teaching and tutoring. She collects recycled fabric, paper and ephemera and uses collage, stitch, photographic and print processes. Her inspirations are travel, memory and vintage imagery from a variety of sources. These have been described as 'small worlds' and her current work started life as mainly botanical in subject matter before developing into larger more narrative works. Often it can be a small scrap or remnant of fabric that inspires a whole piece and she is inspired by nature, travel and folk art. Collaborations are an important aspect of her work – these were documented in her first book ‘Connected Cloth’. She also produces commissions for private and public individuals and spaces.
Anne’s second book ‘Textile Nature’ was launched at the Knitting and Stitching Shows’ in 2016. Her third book ‘Textile Folk Art’ was launched at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate in 2018. Her fourth book for Batsford ‘Textile Travels’, was published in 2020 and 'Textile Portraits' in 2023. She has been a guest and invited artist at a number of national and international venues including the Knitting and Stitching Show, the Prague Patchwork Meeting, World of Threads in Canada and Pour l'Amour du Fil and Quilt en Beaujolais in France. Her major solo exhibition 'Well Travelled' started at the prestigious Ruthin Craft Centre and has toured to the Harley Gallery in the UK. She works with project partners in the UK and abroad to design workshops, kits and to speak at events.
Anne is a member of the Embroiderers Guild UK, the Society for Embroidered Work (SEW) and the European Textile Network
