Author Information:

Professor Andrew J. Scott wants the world to recognise and seize the opportunities of what he considers to be humanity's greatest achievement. What is that? The extraordinary gains in life expectancy that have occurred around the world over the last 100 years. Andrew's work is about showing how individuals, business and society can unlock the benefits that flow from this. Andrew brings a unique perspective as a global economist, professor and government advisor drawing on a range of perspectives. That mix has given him access to academia, industry, social pioneers and policymakers around the globe and helped shape his insights on the impact longevity will have on us all. These insights about how we need to restructure life is behind the success of Professor Scott's global bestseller - The 100 Year Life: Living and Working in an Age of Longevity. Translated into 15 languages, winner of various prizes the book has helped shift the global narrative away from a focus on ageing to thinking about how we seize the benefits of longevity. In Japan, a country leading the way in terms of longevity, the response was a Prime Ministerial commission to "Design a 100 Year Life." Increasingly individuals, companies and government are waking up to the challenge. Failing to do so will leave too many individuals unprepared for the future and firm's who will fail to benefit from what has been called 'the largest emerging market'. The individuals, companies and countries who seize this longevity agenda will benefit from a key competitive advantage in the years ahead. Andrew's interest in longevity is representative of the way he thinks. He loves big ideas and how understanding them provides insights into action today and in the future. Professor Scott likes to 'join up the dots' so that the big picture becomes clear. His new book "The New Long Life" does just that with its focus on how technological change and longevity together require us to live our life differently and what we all need to do to seize the opportunities. Andrew J. Scott is currently Professor of Economics at London Business School and Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. Having previously held positions at All Souls, Oxford University, Harvard University and the London School of Economics. He was Managing Editor for the Royal Economic Society's Economic Journal and Non-Executive Director for the UK's Financial Services Authority 2009-2013. He has been an advisor on policy to a range of governments and government departments. He is currently on the advisory board of the UK's Office for Budget Responsibility, the Cabinet Office Honours Committee (Science and Technology), co-founder of The Longevity Forum, a member of the UK government's Longevity Council and the WEF council on Japan and a consulting scholar at Stanford University's Center on Longevity.
