Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi was born in Karachi in 1960. He is a graduate, with distinction, from Hailey College of Commerce, University of Punjab, Lahore in 1979. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Mr. Zaidi was the Senior Partner at A.F. Ferguson & Co, a century old firm of accountants. He served as the 26th Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in 2019. He also served as a Provincial Minister for Finance, Revenue and Excise & Taxation, in the Government of Sindh during the care taker regime of 2013.
He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and has also served as the President of the Institute from 2005-2006 and the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) in 2008. Mr. Zaidi has also served as member of Developing Nations Committee of International Federation of Accountants, Founder Director of Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG), member of Central Audit Committee of the from State Bank of Pakistan and the Director of the Karachi Stock Exchange Limited 2012-2015. He served as first Chairman of Regulatory Affairs Committee (RAC) of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) after its demutualiza-tion. He compiled the first Rule Book for PSX.
Mr. Zaidi is presently engaged in consulting by the name of Syed Shabbar Zaidi & Co., having offices in Karachi, Lahore, London and Toronto. His field of expertise is accounting, tax, foreign exchange, anti-money laundering, corpo-rate restructuring, local and foreign trusts and allied subjects.
As a part of his social work he is a Member Board of the Sindh Institute of Urology & Trans-plantation (SIUT), a trustee of SIUT Trust and the Member of Board of Governors of Liaquat National Hospital, Karachi.
He served as the President of Pak Muharram Association in the year 2016. Mr. Zaidi is, at present, the Director and Chairman Audit Committee of three listed companies viz. Lucky Core Limited, Industries Kohinoor Textile Mills Limited and Gadoon Textiles Limited. He is also a director of Greentree Holdings Limited, British Virgin Island, an associate of TRG Group.

Mr. Zaidi is a regular author in Daily Business Recorder. His podcasts on economic, political and religious matters have a large following.
