Dr Ali Madeeh Hashmi is a psychiatrist, teacher, writer, and translator. In addition to his professional activities, Dr Hashmi is the author of five books on poetry and literature including the first (and only) biography of his grandfather, the celebrated poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz published in 2016. His essays about mental health, literature, poetry, and history have been published in scientific journals, magazines, newspapers and literary journals in Pakistan, India, and the US. His most recent book The Desert of Possibility: Writings on Poetry and Literature was published in 2017. He is a Trustee of the Faiz Foundation Trust, Pakistan, and President of Faiz Foundation Inc. USA. He lives in Lahore where he teaches and practices psychiatry.
