Ali Kazim: Alphabet Book / Urdu Qaida is a collaborative project between Pakistani visual artist Ali Kazim and curator Hammad Nasar, published by Ochre Books in 2026. This unique artist's book reimagines the traditional Urdu primer (qaida) by pairing the letters of the Urdu alphabet with Kazim's detailed artwork depicting South Asia’s flora, fauna, and everyday life. Alongside the visuals, Hammad Nasar provides a deeply insightful essay that explores the cultural layers of the Urdu language and highlights how Kazim's painting style beautifully connects historic Mughal miniature traditions with modern watercolor techniques.
