Farhatullah Babar's public service spans over six decades. Starting as a civil engineer in Local Government and teaching at the Government College of Technology in Peshawar for four years in the 1960s, he switched to information and journalism. During the fervent quest for nuclear technology in the 1970s, he served as the director of information at the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) under Chairman Munir Ahmad Khan.
He has worked as a newspaper editor, columnist, speechwriter to PM Benazir Bhutto (1988-90), her Spokesperson (1993-96), Spokesperson to President Zardari (2008-2013), and as Senator for three terms from Pakhtunkhwa He is a life member of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz His extensive writings in English, Urdu and Pashto on national and international issues, including nuclear issues, have been compiled into 10 volumes.
