Ziarat with its secluded, juniper-draped glens, lower altitude and virtually year-round access is the ideal seminary for future hill walkers. Here, within thirty minutes by foot from the hotel room one finds oneself in the middle of a wilderness that has seldom known the tramp of trekkers’ boots. Here the trails are untrodden by any but local shepherds and the junipers, tall and stately or gnarled and grotesquely contorted, have never brooded over campers’ tents. Never has a trekker surprised a hill fox or stone marten hunting in the thickets under the junipers and only the most serious ornithologists are known to have watched the myriad migratory and resident birds of the many valleys of Ziarat.
